Grab the tissues! This story will definitely have you shedding a tear or two.
When Snow Khetha and her eight-year-old son, Sthe, from Waverly in Bloemfontein realised that their beloved pooch, Sheru, went missing on Monday 13 July, they were devastated.
Speaking to YOU, the mom of one suspects the three-year-old dog snuck out whilst the gate, which wasn’t working properly at the time, was opened.
“It felt like we were mourning at someone’s funeral – a family member’s,” she tells us. “It was depressing.
“We wondered if he was okay, was he scared? What would become of him? Was he dead or alive? It was a disturbing period in our household.
“We’d drive around every night hoping to find him. Sthe was very sad, shame,” she says.
In a bid to find the four-legged animal, Snow shared a picture of Sheru, who’s described as the “true definition of a guard dog” on a Facebook page called Bloemfontein Lost and Found Dogs and Cats, asking people to contact her if they spotted Sheru.
Fortunately, after six days a lady from the social media group called Snow to tell her that she’d spotted Sheru 6km away from her home.
Snow was finally reunited with the family pet on Saturday 18 July.
“Finding him was surreal”, the relieved 40-year-old says.
“That entire week was extremely cold; I can only imagine how our dog felt while roaming around in the cold.”
A heartwarming picture of an emotional Snow and Sheru reuniting was recently posted by The Ridge Vet and Pet Spa Facebook page and has since gone viral, garnering close to 10 000 shares.
“You can never understand the pain unless you’re a dog owner yourself. They truly are family,” one person wrote on the post.
“This photo says it all! So happy they were reunited,” wrote another person.
