If you’ve ever had to complete an academic dissertation, you would know the laborious hours that go into writing it.
It’s stressful, time-consuming and, if we’re honest, often quite tedious.
But one student took a creative approach, opting to rap his 10 000-word dissertation in a 21-track album.
Nicholas Uzoka, a student in English and creative writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, featured nine rap tracks and 12 poetry skits on the record. He “released” it under his stage name, Zoka the Author.
Nicholas’ lecturers loved his unique submission so much they awarded him a First, which is the UK equivalent of graduating Cum Laude, The Metro reports.
“I am a rapper, that’s my best form of artistic expression and the uni was kind enough to allow me to accommodate my particular style of poetry into their course,” Nicholas (22) says.
The thesis was titled The First Stone: An Oratorio, and explored his relationship with God through the metaphor of a relationship with a woman, The Norwich Tab writes.
Nicholas says rapping his dissertation allowed him to express himself in his favourite form of artistry. He now plans to “give the music industry my absolute all to see how far I can go”.
The album has been released on Spotify and iTunes for those curious to hear what spitting academic bars sounds like.
