It sounds like a recipe for disaster: four children under 10 in the same household. But Maureen van Helsen from Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, runs a tight ship, with each of her children doing their bit to help in and around the home.
“Everyone has chores,” says Maureen about her kids aged nine, seven, four and two. The two eldest ones have their own rooms and make their own beds in the mornings. The youngest two must pick up and put away their toys before bedtime.”
She’s taught her children from a young age to put their clothes in the laundry basket every evening at bath time, and to hang up their towels afterward.
