Well, this is certainly a gin worth sharing with special friends!
Buckingham Palace is now making and selling its owner’s favourite tipple. It’s no secret Queen Elizabeth enjoys a little gin martini of an evening and soon her subjects will able to sip the stuff her staff produce.
Infused with citrus and herbal notes from the palace’s very own garden, the drink has been launched by the Royal Collection Trust and costs a whopping £40 (around R840) a bottle.
Among its ingredients are hawthorn berries, lemon verbena, mulberry leaves and bay leaves.
Aptly called Buckingham Palace Gin, it’s currently for sale on the Royal Collection Trust’s shop website where it’s described as “the perfect summer thirst-quencher”.
Drinkers are also given a tip on how to serve it. “The recommended serving method is to pour a measure of the gin into an ice-filled short tumbler before topping up with tonic and garnishing with a slice of lemon,” the website states.
It comes in a pretty, clear turquoise bottle embossed with a coronet and a ring of flower and a sketch of Buckingham Palace on the back. A gold-coloured stopper adds some regal flair.
The luxury spirit will be served at all future events at the palace once gatherings are allowed again.
All profits from its online sales – which is only available to UK residents at the moment – go towards the trust, which looks after the royal art collection and oversees all public openings of the queen’s official residences.
This isn’t the first time however the royals have dabbled in drink. Her Majesty’s son Prince Charles produces organic gin at his Cornwall estate while the family’s Balmoral estate in Scotland distils single-malt whiskey.
