She’s known for her striking signature platinum-blonde pixie cut. But Princess Charlene caused a stir when she switched up her look in Monte Carlo at the weekend, proving that, just maybe, brunettes do have more fun.

The Monegasque royal debuted her dark-brown hair at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix with her husband, Prince Albert, and other members of the royal family.

Charlene (45) turned heads in a sleeveless rainbow-coloured dress from Swiss fashion brand Akris as she sang the national anthem beside her husband. She also handed the trophy to second-place winner Fernando Alonso, while Prince Albert congratulated Max Verstappen for taking first place at the annual race.

The pair, who will have been married for 12 years in July, also got glammed up for the gala ginner which followed the racing event.

As royal fans will know, the Olympic swimmer-turned-princess has never been afraid to try something new with her locks: she’s had long tresses, short pixie cuts and went full-on edgy when she shaved half her hair off.

“Her cuts have certainly been eclectic, and her different styles have often marked changes in her life,” hair expert Nicole Petty told the UK’s Daily Express.

“Her look is far different from that of other royal family members, who are known to stick to more traditional haircuts, as she embraces trends where others avoid them,” Nicole added.

“But much like a haircut, it can indicate an important change in your life, like a fresh start, personal growth or a new attitude towards a specific aspect of your life.”

Though the Zimbabwean-born princess wasn't the only royal at the racing event – Princess Stéphanie's son, Louis Ducruet, attended along with Princess Caroline's sons, Pierre Casiraghi and Andrea Casiraghi, and daughter, Charlotte Casiraghi – she was certainly the most talked about.

Charlene and Albert's united front comes just months after French magazine Royauté reported that the couple were in the process of a divorce – something the princess denied while speaking to YOU earlier this year.

“The false allegations and narrative that certain media are propagating are very disappointing and hurtful to me,” she said during the exclusive interview.

“Albert and I are fine. I am happy and healthy and my focus remains my family and work.”
