It’s the birthright of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, to receive the title of prince one day – but that doesn’t seem as if it’s going to happen.

Harry’s father, Prince Charles, reportedly has plans for a slimmed-down, lower-cost monarchy, which means fewer titles for family members.

Charles (72), heir to the British throne, apparently wants to limit the number of titled royals as he believes the public won’t want to pay for an ever-expanding monarchy.

The grandchild of a sovereign has the right to hold the title of prince or princess, according to royal decree. So when Queen Elizabeth (95) dies and her eldest son, Charles, ascends the throne, Archie (2) would automatically become a prince.

But the Prince of Wales has reportedly told Harry (36) he wants to change legal documents, which will prevent Archie receiving a title.

The full details of Charles’ plan for a pared-down monarchy haven’t been revealed, but it’s believed only direct heirs to the throne – such as Harry’s brother, Prince William (39), his eldest son, Prince George (7), and their immediate families will receive full titles along with financial support from the public purse through the Sovereign Grant, and police protection funded by the taxpayer.
