It’s probably not something Prince Harry wants to hear right now as he settles down into his new life in the US, but a former royal photographer has sent him a heartrending plea, asking him to return to the UK and help his grandmother.

“Please come back, the Queen needs your support,” Arthur Edwards (80) said during an appearance on the UK show This Morning, adding, “This is a great country and the royal family are very important to us all.”

“William can't do it all, Katherine can't do it all,” he continued, referring to Harry’s brother, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have of course taken on the bulk of the royal duties since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior working royals earlier this year.

Arthur added that Harry’s father, Prince Charles (71), is also under even more pressure.

“The Prince of Wales has taken on the Queen's role now so he’s even more busy.

Arthur, who has taken pictures of the royal family for decades for UK tabloid The Sun, admitted he was stunned when Harry and Meghan announced they were quitting the Firm.

He added that in the early days he was a big Meghan fan.

“For the first year I thought she was sensational. I did lots of trips with her. I went to Morocco and all around Britain and Ireland and she was great.”

But then things deteriorated.

“Four or three times I asked the palace if we as a media group could meet Meghan and it never happened.

“I think if she’d met us things might have been different. She might have seen that we're human and unfortunately she did get some bad press, and that was a mistake.

“We ask for forgiveness and please come back.”

In another interview, Arthur said it was a “tragedy” that Harry and William (38) had fallen out and agreed it “must be over Meghan – something of course that royal journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand write about in their best-selling new memoir about the Sussexes, Finding Freedom.

“Since they were born I watched them grow up together and they were very close,” Arthur adds.

“The tragedy is they are no longer talking to each other and it must be over Meghan, because before that Harry, Catherine and William were doing wonderful things together.”

Arthur adds that Harry was always “the most popular of the royal family”, saying he was “so exciting to work with”.

“We would go on tour with him and there would be great pictures. He would go out of his way to help you, have a chat, make you a cup of tea, have a drink on the beach. He was an exciting young man and supporting his brother; we thought he would do it for the rest of his life, I can't believe this has happened.”
