King Charles is mourning his longtime friend Ian Farquhar, who has died at the age of 78 at the monarch's Highgrove Estate, where he was renting a farmhouse.

In 2000 Prince William briefly dated Ian’s daughter, Rose (now 40). She's been described as his first serious girlfriend. He attended Rose’s wedding in 2022 and she was invited to his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.

Although Rose and William’s relationship didn’t last, Ian and Charles (77) became friends around this time and remained in each other’s lives.

“He used to go and have dinner with the king and drive home across the fields,” a source told the Daily Mail.

For two years Ian served as equerry to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Ian was also a respected huntsman.

He was also close to Queen Consort Camilla (75) and her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles (84). Andrew told the Daily Mail that Ian had been ill for some time and that he was heartbroken at the news of his passing.

Charles is yet to talk publicly about his friend’s death. He has had to deal with a lot lately.

On 17 January, Buckingham Palace shared that Charles had an enlarged prostate. Then in February while being treated for the benign prostate condition, news broke that he had cancer, the nature of which has not been disclosed. He’s currently undergoing cancer treatment.
