Sweet, caring and kind is how she’s often described and the Duchess of Cambridge lived up to her reputation again recently when she penned a moving letter to a five-year-old boy with prosthetic legs, praising him for walking 10 km in 30 days to raise money for the hospital that saved his life.
The note from the duchess was shared on Tony Hudgell’s Instagram account, which documented his journey.
“We was all super excited today, that Bear [Tony] received a special letter from Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. Absolutely one to treasure,” it said.
In it, the royal mom of three congratulated the youngster, who hails from Kent in the UK, on his “amazing” fundraising efforts.
“I wanted to send you my congratulations following your amazing fundraising efforts last month for Evelina London Children's Hospital,” she wrote.
Tony is indeed a true inspiration. The youngster had to have both his legs amputated in 2017 due to being abused by his birth parents. He was later adopted by Paula and Mark Hudgell.
They along with friends and staff from the Evelina London Children's Hospital who treated him were all at the finishing line to welcome him when he finished his walk on 30 June.
“It was wonderful to hear how you were inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore's story to carry out your own walk. I am very impressed that you carried on even after reaching your target of 10km!” said the duchess.
“We are all so proud of what you have achieved.
“I hope that you manage to have a very well deserved rest before starting on your next adventure - whatever that may be!”

Tony was inspired to do his walk after hearing about Captain Sir Tom Moore, the 99-year-old war veteran who in April walked 100 laps around his garden during lockdown – and in the process raised over £4 million (R90 m) for the National Health Service (NHS), which helped him with treatment for cancer and a broken hip.
