Turns out Prince Charles has something special in mind for his grandson’s upcoming seventh birthday.

The 71-year-old says seven is the perfect age to start appreciating classical music and performance art and he wants to share his love for it with Prince George, who celebrates his birthday on 22 July.

During an interview on Classic FM, the Prince of Wales recalled how his grandmother, the Queen Mother, influenced his love of the arts, which he now wants to encourage in his own grandchildren.

“She used to play quite a bit of music, so I’d hear something there,” the royal said. “But I suspect the first time I really became aware of it was being taken by my grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to Covent Garden aged seven, I think.

“It must have been in 1956 to see the Bolshoi Ballet perform. It was their first visit to the United Kingdom, and I shall never forget that incredible occasion.

He says it’s something many grandparents can do.

“I was completely inspired by it, which is why it’s so important, I think, for grandparents or other relations to take children at about this age to experience some form of the arts in performance.

It seems the youngster already has a head start. During his parents’ tour of Ireland earlier this year, the Duchess of Cambridge, revealed that her oldest son “is just starting to learn the guitar.”

Prince William has also previously said that George “loves” his ballet classes at school.
