But the sparkly stuff doesn't have to be limited to the eyes or as a highlighter on the cheekbones - it can work incredibly well on the lips as well.

We spoke to Stacey Whittaker, one of Scotland's top make-up artists, on how to nail this look.

"Bold lips paired with minimal eye make-up and flawless skin is a look I really love and glitter lipstick is a great way to achieve this," she told Cover Media.

While there is a whole host of glitter lipsticks on the market, you can also achieve the look yourself at home in a matter of minutes.

"Use a matte nude lipstick as a base, top with a clear gloss and use an eyeshadow or lip brush to press loose glitter flecks onto your lips," Stacey explained. "MAC Cosmetics loose pigments work really well for this and one of my favourites is the Old Gold Pigment in Frost finish."

If you don't want to mess around making your own lip colour, then look out for Ciate London's Glitter Flip liquid lipstick. This innovative product has been causing a storm on social media and it's not hard to see why. Apply your chosen colour, wait two minutes and then rub your lips together and watch the glitter appear. It's also fully customisable as the more you rub, the sparklier your lips will get.

Stargazer's Glitter Lipstick is also another good option - these hyper-pigmented lipsticks are impregnated with glitter flecks. Whether you want a relatively subtle pink or an eye-catching gold, there's a hue for everyone in this range.

"The key to this is to have fun and be bold, it is not for the faint hearted!" Stacey added.
