"My at-home gel nails faux pas"

accreditation
This is in response to Lili Radloff's column, Our biggest beauty blunders.

I love having gel nails on my toes, so much so that I do them once a month and they look great and last for about a month.

I recently saw a gel nail kit advertised and thought, "Hey, this is cool, I can save money by doing it at home." So I bought the kit together with the curing lamp. Buying the set was the easiest part...

It looked so ultra-simple when the nail tech did it so I was pretty confident I would master it myself. How wrong I was!

When I finished my nails, they looked awful! It was as uneven as some of the roads in South Africa and it didn't dry completely, which resulted in it getting fluff stuck on it and me looking like some weird forest creature!

And when I attempted to remove the disaster I created, the gel stuck onto my nails for dear life and I ended up with really sensitive, painful nails after much pulling and prodding.

Needless to say, I now let the trained techs see to my toesies.
