The dress was featured in one of the most memorable cinema images of the 20th Century from The Seven Year Itch and has since found its way to actress Debbie Reynold's memorabilia collection.
Debbie had intended to have the dress as part of a museum, along with costumes worn with Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Madonna – but the project never came to fruition. Instead, the frock has gone to an anonymous bidder for a hefty R31 million.
