Newsflash! Prints don't make you look fat

Many women are afraid to wear print for fear that it will make them look bigger. In reality, prints do wonders to disguise the parts you most want to hide and emphasise the parts you love.

Here are my top tips to effectively wearing prints:

• Wear it fitted.
The great thing about print, is that it deceives the eye.  You won’t know what’s fabric and what’s flesh.  Because of it’s deceptive qualities, you can wear more fitted styles than you can if the fabric is plain. Be careful of baggy clothes in prints (unless the fabric is transparent) as this can make you look bigger than you really are.

• Use print to draw attention to the parts you like
. You can use print strategically by wearing it on the part of your body you love.  If you love the top part of your body, but want to de-emphasise the bottom, wear a striking print on the top with a plain, dark colour on the bottom.  If you love your legs, show them off in fashionable printed trousers.

• Dress your print. Printed dresses are not only fun to wear, but are super practical and stylish.  You won’t have to worry about VPL and if the style is right for your shape, you won’t have to pull in your tummy or wish your hips were narrower.  If you are yet to brave a printed dress, give it a chance. You may be surprised!

• Print size. I don’t believe in absolutes when it comes to print size.  I think the size of the print is less important than the fit of the printed garment.  When trying on prints, try a smaller size than you usually take in a plain.  You can often go down a size when you are wearing a print.

• Don’t be afraid to try.  When venturing into prints for the first time, be prepared to try a variety.  If one doesn’t work, try another, till you find the type of print that works for you.
