And just like that, fashion month is over.

Four Fall/Winter fashion weeks take place in four fashion capitals every season, inspiring style circles across the globe.

This year we got a peak into what we'll be wearing this winter season and it looks like we'll be maxing out on minimalism coupled with mismatched prints on days when you're feeling adventurous.

Although this may be our verdict, it doesn't mean the collections shown in New York, London, Milan and Paris were dull and nondescript. Quite the opposite actually - a lot of statements were made both sartorially and politically.

We also lost Karl Lagerfeld during this fashion month, meaning we had to bid farewell to his magnificent stage sets, but it also granted us an unforgettable bittersweet Fendi Karl Lagerfeld tribute.

We've chosen our best eights shows from New York to Paris - two from each city.

These were the best picks:

New York

New York fashion Week really hit this season off with a bang and heightend our expectations for what was to come at her sister Fashion Weeks.

With Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Proenza schouler, Coach 1941, Rodarte and Hugo Boss all putting their best foot forward, it was difficult to decide which collection we'd definitely take home with us given the chance.

Eventually, props had to be given to Marc Jacobs for being the most talked about show and Hugo Boss for being the most shoppable collection.

Most talked about: Marc Jacobs

Print, feathers, the mixing of textures and the return of the beanie.

Most shoppable: Hugo Boss

It was all about putting tailored coats in focus – long greatcoats and capes in shearling, alpaca wool and double-faced cashmere.

Most talked about: Erdem

Erdem's Fall/Winter '19 offering was very similar to Rodarte in terms of its oil painting aesthetic. Oh, and all that brocade made us feel like money just by looking at the models as they walked down the runway.

Most shoppable: Burberry

They had a shaky start with a their controversial and problematic noose hoodies, but when Burberry stuck to the things they know - the classic double-breasted trench coat - they delivered as usual.

For a local equivalent you won't regret, Woolworths has got you. Available in camel or black, R1199

Milan

The top show of Milan Fashion Week, without a doubt, was Moncler 1 Pierpaolo Piccioli x Lemlem. This collaboration with Liya Kebede saw Ethiopian prints on head-to-toe puffer gowns. Quite Genius if you ask me.

A special mention to Fendi for being the most talked about and the most shoppable.

Most shoppable: Fendi

This Karl Lagerfeld tribute made us fall in love with flare dresses all over again.

We think King Karl would approve of this interpretation - Bella Sequence Fit & Flare Dress, R1299 at Poetry

Paris

Highly anticipated and highly acclaimed, Paris Fashion Week concludes a jam-packed month of coveted ready-to-wear collections.

Most talked about: Jacquemus

From pillow handbags to lipstick handbags, this French designer re-imagined the handbag as we've always known it.

Most shoppable: Dior

Sticking to the theme of feminism, Dior gave us a 2019 of the 1950s Teddy Girls' look, meaning this winter we'll also be big on check prints.

This check blazer should make you feel empowered at just R259.99 from MRP
