When it comes to relationships, there are many codes, such as the girl code, the bro code and the family code. What these codes basically mean is: these are unspoken rules that one should follow - like, you don't date your friend's ex-boyfriend, you don't have sexual relations with someone who dated within your family etc.
A Reddit mother learnt the hard way that not everyone adheres to the 'family code' and is upset with her daughter for dating her son's childhood ex-girlfriend.

Taking to Reddit, the 47-year-old mom whose kids are daughter Lila (23) and son Adam (26) shared that she is upset about the 'love triangle' in her family.
"When Adam was 11, he had his first girlfriend, Jenna. It was a typical middle school relationship, they went to a few dances, bowling and things like that," she says.
Adam's relationship with Jenna lasted five months and when it ended Adam was heartbroken as this was his first love.

"Jenna did hurt his feelings by telling him the reason they broke up was because she didn't like kissing him, but he seemed to get over it quickly," she added.
Fast forward to years later, Adam is married and is expecting a child soon. His sister Lila, just moved back home from college and started dating Jenna seven months ago.
"Lila is in love. She's been open about being a lesbian since she was a freshman in high school but she never showed interest in anyone before Jenna. I'm so happy to finally see her satisfied with that aspect of her life," the mother added.
However, Adam isn't so happy and he thinks the relationship is weird since Jenna is his ex-girlfriend.
"His main arguments are that it's tainting the memory of his first love and that Jenna hurt him when she broke up with him," the mother says.

The story gets worse because Lila is so in love with Jenna that they have just signed a lease on their first apartment together.
Adam feels like Lila is a backstabber and disloyal. His anger, he says, is not about harbouring feelings. His mother, on the other hand, feels that with him being a married man who's expecting a child soon, his focus shouldn't be on his sister's relationship and has threatened to limit contact with him if he continues with this behaviour.
"He needs to grow up and stop acting like he owned Jenna. He got very angry with me for choosing Lila but I don't see it that way. I'm just choosing to protect my own sanity," the mom says.

The mother also said she asked some of his friends for their thoughts on the issue and two out of three agree with her, while the other one says he understands why he's upset.

Jumping into the comment section, Redditors shared their opinions in support of the mother with one saying, "Well, he shouldn't take it personally that she didn't like kissing him now that he knows she's into women."
Another commented on the brother's behaviour by saying, "Who's in love at 11? Adam is petty and would rather ruin his relationship with his entire family because he got dumped at 11."
Another also pointed out how long ago his relationship with this girl was by saying, "They were literal children! And that was a long time ago. He has clearly moved on. Why isn't Jenna allowed to?"
