It’s hard to resist the thrill of buying something on sale, but a sale item isn’t always the bargain it seems. Tracy Gold gives her top tips on how to determine if that ‘must have’ sale item is the bargain you think it is.
How many times do you buy something because it’s on sale, only to find you never wear it? A bargain is only a bargain if you actually wear it. Before you hit the end of season sales take a look at my tips to finding the real bargains.
Know what you have: I always encourage women to look inside their closets first before buying a single item. How many times have you bought a must-have top only to find you already have a similar one?
Make a list of items you need or want. Knowing what you are looking for makes it easier to find. Sale time may give you the opportunity to stock up on winter basics for next year. For example, if your black boots are looking worse for wear, sale time may be the best time to look out for a classic pair of boots you’ll wear for seasons to come.
To determine if something is a real bargain ask yourself the following:
• What can I wear it with? Have you got at least three items in your wardrobe to wear it with?
• Can I wear it next winter? We are at the tale end of winter, so it’s better to buy items you can wear now and next winter.
• Does it fit well? If you are buying something to alter, determine if the price of the alteration is worth it. It may go from being a bargain to an investment item.
• Do you love it? If you really love it and you’ll wear it, then it’s a bargain.
