Online Dating: Have we gone too far?

With thousands of internet dating sites all over the world boasting to have the power of Cupid’s Arrow, more and more people are turning to their computer screens in the hopes of meeting Mr Right. But are these sites going too far to help couples connect?

A few months ago Women24 wrote a story about a new app “Bang With Friends” that lets you discreetly connect with Facebook friends that also fancy a quickie, but this is not the only app of its kind. In fact there are a number of dating apps that seem to ignore any romantic ideas, and like so much of technology, tries to make the process as seamless as possible.

TrintMe, Wouldlove2 and EmbarrassNot are three apps that try and remove any of the awkwardness surrounding dating. EmbarrassNot allows you to select the Facebook friends you’re particularly fond of and if they also select you, the app will connect you both, making your intentions known. It will only work if both parties choose each other removing any embarrassing awkwardness if your potential suitor doesn’t feel quite the same.

How pathetic.

I know rejection is hard. Everyone at some point will have experienced it. The sinking feeling in your gut when you realise he doesn’t quite spend his days imagining the two of you in a field of daisies, running towards each other in slow motion. But, seriously! What is this world coming to if we can’t face a bit of rejection and a few awkward social events?

With technology buffering every little task or service and trying so desperately to minimize any form of actual work, it is creating a society that will never experience anything real or honest. The world is not inside your computer screen.

So get out, go to a bar, brace yourself, and meet someone.
