A Polish designer has released a new jewellery collection made of new mothers’ breast milk.

Marta Ewa Rzanek, who runs a Jewellery firm in the city of Lodz in central Poland, uses 25 millimetres of breast milk combined with resin for jewellery to create necklaces or bracelets for her collection, ‘Mother’s Milk Collection’.

The stones made from breast milk are said to be smooth but tough as they do not crack if dropped.

According to Marta, the stones are at risk of turning yellow if left in direct sunlight for a long period of time. She also notes that they are all slightly different colours depending on the mothers.

The pieces are designed to capture the special time a new mother spends with their baby and breastfeeding them.

“Orders have come from the United Kingdom and Germany with milk usually being sent by post,” she says.

The designer has made engagement rings with mothers’ milk and says in general the reaction to her collection is “very positive”.

Marta says the idea for this collection first came in 2015 when a close friend asked her to make a ring after she had given birth.

The designer then decided that she wanted to make jewellery that immortalised special moments from early motherhood.
