Blonde is making a big comeback. We’ve recently seen a wide range of celebs from Sarah Hyland to Justin Bieber make the change. Even dark haired beauty's like Vanessa Hudgens and Boity Thulo tried out blonde and totally slayed.
But can everyone pull it off? Depends.
For Harper’s Bazaar, the best brunette to blonde celeb transformation ever is Khloe Kardashian. For them, Khloe’s amazing transformation is a huge inspiration – one that will surely make others want to go the same route.
If you are one of those people who want to go blonde, but are still unsure whether or not it will suit you, here are 5 things to consider before making the change:
1. Choose the best shade for your skin tone
There are many variations of blonde to choose from, but not all of them work with every skin tone. You need to find the shade that’ll complement you. If you are not sure where to start, Cosmopolitan has a good guide to help.
According to them olive undertones go best with honey blonde, pink undertones suit creamy, beach blonde and porcelain complexions are ideally suited to platinum blonde.
2. Do you have the time and money to maintain your new look?
Changing your hair can get pricey, especially if you have dark hair. According to About Style, if you go too light too fast, you could cause some serious damage to your hair. So, to get the exact shade of blonde you want may require multiple visits to the salon. Then there’s all those annoying touch ups when your roots start to show…
3. Make sure your hair is healthy
We all know that dying your hair can be very damaging. This rings even more true for going lighter, as you are stripping colour from your hair. Birch Box says that the healthier your hair is, the better your colour will look. They recommend using a deep conditioner in the leading up to the weeks of your transformation.
4. Change your hair care routine
Different hair means different products. You will need a special shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. Allure recommends using a colour boosting shampoo for when your blonde gets too brassy or too flat. Silver shampoos are ideal.
They also recommend getting an intense hair mask to use weekly. A deep conditioner is essential to nourish your locks to prevent it from drying out after all the touch-ups at the salon.
5. Avoid hot styling tools
If you love your hair dryer, straighter and curling iron, be prepared to cut down their usage. Harper’s Bazaar says that using hot tools cause internal damage to your hair. Your hair will already be damaged from the intense colouring and applying heat on top of that is not recommended as it will further weaker those frail tresses. So set your tools to a lower heat and always remember to apply that heat protector!
