The room
It’s Friday early evening, it’s been a long day, week even and I can’t wait to unwind in the company of my best friend at the Signature Lux Hotel. There’s a buzz as I arrive, it’s peak time so there are people checking in and I have to wait a bit before being attended to. It’s finally my turn and an efficient, friendly and welcoming gentleman attends to me.
The room is relatively spacious with heavenly bathroom lights and a queen-sized bed. Considering Sandton’s popularity, I would’ve expected a level of noise to come through but I can hardly hear a thing. The room really does seem like the perfect place to unwind. It’s tranquil and peaceful – I almost forgot that I’m in Johannesburg, just minutes away from Nelson Mandela Square or even the busy Gautrain station.
While the hotel is ideal for business travellers and tourists, having stayed there overnight, I found that it’s also a great romantic getaway or a place for you to spend time by yourself.
Drinks and dinner
The hotel has a laid-back restaurant downstairs, where there is something for almost everyone. Because I had never been to the restaurant before, I wasn’t sure what to order, so I asked the waiter to guide me. He recommended the chicken meal, served with veggies and we weren’t disappointed. The two of us decided to order a steak to share. Two bottles of wine later, we dashed into the room to get some rest.
Breakfast
As expected, when we woke up in the morning, all we could think about was indulging in a greasy, filling breakfast. When we arrived at the restaurant, there were a number of people already settled but we were still attended to promptly. We had a traditional English breakfast, which could’ve done with a bit more soul.
Overall:
Overall, my stay was pleasant and I’d go back. The location for me works, transport is accessible and though there aren’t a lot of activities to do, Sandton is a great place to meet new people, especially tourists and get to mingle and learn about different cultures.
