Make-up artist Kenosi speaks to us about all things beauty

accreditation

    1.     Tell us about yourself

My Name is Kenosi Radebe I’m 27 years old, I am very family oriented and I love God. I am makeup artist, a Mentor and the co-founder of Kenosis Beauty together with my amazing husband of 3 years Bongani Radebe.

I grew up in Soweto Naledi in my grandmother’s house where I currently have a makeup studio, which I use to facilitate my makeup trainings and do my makeup bookings from.

I am very passionate about makeup and I have studied a health and skin care diploma for 2 years.  My studies have given me the understanding knowledge on how the beauty industry works.

    2.     When did your love for makeup start?

My passion for makeup started when I was 15 years old, when I was going to my uncle’s funeral. My aunt put some makeup on me and I was blown way.  This was the first time wearing mascara and eyeliner, it made my eyes pop and from the onwards I was hooked. From that day, I never stopped wearing makeup and I would get into trouble with my parents, because I would spend hours on the mirror experimenting with different products and going through magazines to try and recreate different looks. My love for makeup continued even throughout my high school years.

    3.     What sets you apart from the other Makeup artists in the industry?

I believe that, as much as there is so many of us in this industry we all have our signature looks. Most clients and makeup artist are able to immediately pick up from a picture that this is Kenosi’s hand. As for me my signature would be how I do brows and dramatically detailed eyes “hahahaha I hope I’m right!”

    4.     How did you get to a point of perfecting your craft?

The makeup that I studied in college is completely different from what our industry demands, so after studying I got the opportunity to work as a makeup artist for a Bobbi Brown retail counter in 2014. From working in retail, I learned a lot, things like colour, skin care, working on different skin types and facial features and how to make sales. I had to put in a lot of effort into perfecting my craft as I could see the limits of working in retail.

After working 1 year 6 months I quit my job to start my own business and to freelance. Thereafter I started following makeup artists and trends that I loved and started challenging myself to recreating the looks on my clients as I still do that to date.

    5.     Which Celebrities have you worked with so far?

I have worked with the likes of Khanya Mkangisa, Pearl Modiadie, Nomzamo Mbatha, Boity Thulo, Kelly Khumalo, Uyanda Mbuli, Lorna Maseko, Omuhlegela Magwaza, Gugu Gumede,T umi Voster, Tshepi Vundla, Linda Mthoba, Dineo Ranaka, Zoe Mthiyane, Angela Sithole, Kamo Bombe, Lethabo Mathatho, Langa Ngoma and counting.

    6.     Where would you like to take Kenosis as a brand?

I would like to see Kenosis Beauty grow into an international brand that all black women can identify themselves with as a makeup brand and a makeup institute.
