If 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' was a nursery rhyme about moisturising, there would be even more emphasis on the "knees and toes" part, as these tend to be the most neglected areas of personal care.
Ironically, they are also the areas of your body that need extra attention because of the amount of wear and tear they endure in the hustle and bustle of our busy, active lives.
In a previous article published on W24, podiatrist and Chairman of the Podiatry Association of South Africa’s northern branch, Calvin Sinnet, noted that "our feet are among the most important parts of our bodies, and generally the ones we care least about."
“If you don’t look after your feet and [you] wear whatever shoes you like, you’re more likely to have problems in the long run," he added.
And it's true.
Between the people who declare that they only moisturise the parts of their body that will be exposed in any given outfit, and those who don't deem it necessary to moisturise daily, you can bet your small toe that in both scenarios that their feet are most likely neglected.
So today we're not focusing on the podiatry aspect of taking care of your feet (although it is still very important). Instead, we're zooming in on the cosmetic care of feet.
In an Allure article by Kaleigh Fasanella, she stressed the importance of foot exfoliation due to the fact that "we're constantly putting pressure on our feet, which is why they're one of the first places to show signs of skin damage in the form of flaking, peeling, and callouses."
In this same article, it was brought to our attention that you can actually use a face scrub as a foot scrub. Who would've thought, huh?
It's certainly not an outlandish concept, as a New York City-based dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, recommended Neutrogena's Acne Proofing Daily Scrub, telling Allure that this product contains a "high strength of salicylic acid to help soften and exfoliate dead skin on the feet."
