In a Who What Wear article, Kristen Nichols spoke to Vogue's bridal fashion contributor Alexandra Macon about the top bridal trends for 2019.
Puffy voluminous sleeves, feathers, statement veils/tiaras, and minimalist boatneck gowns à la the Duchess of Sussex were just some of the trends predicted to confetti all over wedding scrapbooks in 2019 for brides-to-be and well, the rest of us.
And this year's most memorable brides all seem to have taken notes, knocking 2018's floral appliqué, mermaid silhouettes and generous offering of tulle off their bridal pulpit.

So these are the local and international brides who made the aisle their runway with their statement wedding gowns:
Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding’s star-studded wedding made headlines, but her dress requires a moment of its own. The UK star wore the most incredible hand-embroidered gown by luxury fashion maison Chloé, featuring glass beads and Victorian-inspired details.
The long-sleeved floor length gown also featured button detail along the forearm. The fashion house shares that the silk tulle veil with the couple’s initials on it took 590 hours to make.
Samkelisiwe Mogodi
With the tag #BecomingMrsM, Samkelisiwe populated social media in her glorious Orapeleng Modutle wedding gown. The designer who has become popular for creating decadently-embroided gowns for stars such as Thando Thabethe and Boity Thulo, lent his gifted touch to create Samkelisiwe's wedding gown.
Beading work galore, the gown also features a bodice, an overskirt, sheer illusion and ultra-volume topped off with a royal inspired crown.

Glori Nelson
Former OWLAG student Glori Neslon shared pictures of her wedding earlier this year. In traditional all-white, Glori looked ever-so-gracious in a floor length backless gown with button detail along the sleeves.
She accessorised with bright white pearl chandelier earrings and Manolo Blahnik pumps.
Lydia Pang
Lydia chose to wear a custom-made black Roberts Wood silk organza gown. The designer refers to this ornamental creation as a “hand-linked non-stitch ruffle X-ray dress with super-long ruffle train”.
While covered in ruffles, this dress has mesh details around the shoulder area and sealed off with a crew neck. The superior details on this wedding matched the distinction in which the dress was made.
Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner’s second wedding dress left many in awe after it was revealed that the Louis Vuitton gown took more than 350 hours to make.
Dineo Langa
Probably the most loved bride of 2019, Dineo Langa had our jaws agape with each of the gowns she wore to celebrate her nuptials to Zothile 'Solo' Langa in September.
The multi-hyphenate TV personality wore an Orapeleng Modutle OM Style Avenue Couture gown with a cascading veil. Dineo's wedding was also televised as a three-part special mini-series titled Kwakuhle Kwethu, and that's where her fans got to see her reception dress by La Art Neviole Emporium from all angles as well as her contemporary traditional wedding dress that earned the couple a True Love Magazine cover with images shot by Austin Malema.
Siyanda Dzenga
In 2018, Siya Dzenga made it onto our list of best wedding gowns for her traditional wedding attire.

And this year when she marked her happily-ever-after in a white wedding ceremony in Cape Town, the brand strategist did so in a halterneck couture gown by Tumi of Diamond Love Bridal Couture.
Another gown that caught our attention during the Dzenga wedding weekend was this off-the-shoulder figure-hugging dress by Arato.
Charlotte Casiraghi
Granddaughter of the late Grace Kelly, got married in June 2019 to film producer Dimitri Rassam in a silver/grey Saint Laurent long-sleeved mini, adhering to the 'think beyond the big day' decree from the Who What Wear 2019 bridal trends article mentioned above. Her second wedding gown - a simple satin Chanel dress - was complemented by a beauty look that made her incredibly reminiscent of her grandmother.
Well, this could also be thanks to the fact that she accessorised the dress with Grace Kelly's three-strand Cartier diamond necklace, as noted by Vogue. Charlotte's third gown was a custom Giambattista Valli dress, which could easily have been a part of the collection the designer collaborated with retail giant H&M, on.
Upile Chisala
Malawian storyteller, Upile Chisala, who writes about love in such a way that it seems desirable even to cynics, tied the knot this a little over a week ago in a dreamy ceremony fit for a writer.
Upile danced the night away at her Pretoria wedding in a ball gown creation by Syreeta C Fashion, rocking her signature short crop.
Hilary Duff
There was a bit of a media buzz around this former child star's wedding dress when she secretly wed Matthew Koma, and we understand why. According to Harper's Bazaar, her wedding designer of choice was Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton's go-to for evening wear, Jenny Packham.
Hilary's ivory gown was nothing short of elegance with its extended train, button-down detailing, and cape sleeves. In addition to this, the dress had "bespoke hidden details embroidered within in it, such as the couple’s initials, the date of the wedding and her kids’ initials."
Ah, they grow up so fast!
