The red carpet at the 2019 BET Awards hosted in Los Angeles will have the magic of two South African gems sprinkled on it on Sunday night.

Not only will actress, television, radio personality and all-round style star Nomalanga Shozi be hosting the international red carpet alongside British-Congolese comedian Eddie Kadi, but she will be doing so in a custom Rich Mnisi creation.

Of course, this won't be the first time this award-winning local fashion designer's spectacular work makes an international appearance because the likes of Naomi Campbell and Beyoncé have worn Rich Mnisi pieces before.

And as the face of BET Africa, Nomalanga is also no stranger to getting an international nod for her craft. In 2017, she shot content for the MTV European Music Awards and in 2018, we applauded her when she covered the red carpet at the BET Soul Train Music Awards.

It, therefore, only makes sense that she and Rich Mnisi have collaborated to bring Sunday night's red carpet designer garment - valued at R94 000 - to life.

Speaking about the garment that took a month to create, the highly acclaimed designer says the following:

“The Nomalanga garment is inspired by a precious resource, diamonds, to capture her striking stature and uniqueness. To tell a story of a girl unearthed from the fertile African soil. She is a diamond in the rough, perfectly rooted, polished in Africa and exported to the world to marvel at her splendour[sic].”

"I’m happy to have worked with Noma on such a special moment,” added Rich.

Besides the value of the highly anticipated red carpet spectacle and how much time and thought went into it, we're just as curious (and excited) as you about what it will look like exactly. However, what BET Africa's celebrated face can say for now is this:

“I can’t wait to reveal this exquisite ensemble by Rich Mnisi, which for now I can define as beautiful, classy and just perfect for the red carpet. All shall be revealed on Sunday for everyone, I am so excited.”

The Flame - as she is also affectionately known - will pair her 'mysterious' garment with a pair of Steve Maddens and rock tresses by The San Hair to complete her look.

We're certain The Flame will fire up that red carpet and create a stir come Sunday, so be sure to look out for our roundup of the best looks seen on the 2019 BET Awards red carpet.
