The law finds it unconstitutional

This decision is based on the fact that the right for the women’s medical privacy gets infringed on. Seeing that the mother has to carry the pregnancy, she gets the final say.

The prospective mother can do it discreetly

Because women don’t need consent from the fathers, they also don’t have to notify them prior to doing it. Research shows that most women do discuss abortion with the father and those who don’t are usually in abusive relationships.

What could potentially be done

Advocates of fathers around the world argue that men should be given the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not they want to be fathers or not. A professor at Brown University Frances Goldscheider says fathers should atleast be given the right to ‘financial abortion’.

What the right to financial abortion mean for fathers

He add’s, financial abortions would require the pregnant woman to inform the prospective father when pregnant. “The man would then be allowed to refuse financial gain or legal responsibilities for the child if he doesn’t want to be a father”.

You can reach an agreement

Currently there are no laws protecting fathers with regards to abortions, but you can always come into an agreement. If the prospective mother doesn’t want to keep the baby, the prospective father together with an attorney can draw up an agreement.

The agreement should state that the prospective father intends to pay for all the pregnancy cost’s and obtain full custody of the child after birth.

What are thoughts, should men have some rights regarding abortions?
