How to juggle work and home life

Make a list

It’s hard to keep track of everything that needs to be done on the daily – and while your superwoman powers are exceptional, you’re only human. If you haven’t already gotten into list-making, you’ll be surprised by how much it helps you. Jot everything down – from random grocery top-ups needed, to tasks and places to be. Take it to the next level by setting a time frame for each task and prioritise what needs to be done first. You’ll also get a great sense of satisfaction when you tick things off your list. Yay, you!

Share the load

Don’t be afraid to share tasks where possible. Pushing yourself too hard could lead to burnout in the future and that’s not fun or fair on yourself. Teamwork makes the dream work after all – whether at home or at work, so share the load and work together to achieve common goals. Get those delegating skills ready and rope in your partner and co-workers – and share little household tasks with your kids.

Don’t take work home

Even if you actually work from home, always try to keep your work and home-life separate. Trying to do too much will lead to dropping the ball somehow, so finish each role separately. Most importantly, don’t stress about work while home and spending time with your partner and kids, value your personal relationships and make the most of your time. Similarly, don’t discuss work while chatting to co-workers during lunch or after hours – set clear boundaries and give your brain a breather, allowing yourself to focus on work or “funning” completely.

Take a timeout

At the end of the day you need to be mentally and physically happy and healthy in order to get anything done. Take the time to make yourself happy as it’ll help you continue to do your daily grind. Whether you make time for your favourite show, relax with a cup of tea, book a massage – just do something for yourself.

Say no to guilt

Know that you’re doing the best you can!  Mom-life is hard and mom-guilt is harder but there are smart ways to get through the craziness while juggling all the proverbial balls. You get to enjoy a fulfilling career and actually enjoy life. Focus on tasks at hand, but by all means, live your best life.
