Inked with Meaning

Tattoos are sometimes seen as evil or inappropriate but it’s not always the case. While a tattoo can hold different meanings for some, others see it as a very significant type of body art representing a difficult time or a memory they hold very dear to their hearts. But for the rest, it’s just for fun.

We’ve seen how celebrities across the world glorify tattoos and how they get obsessed with body art. Media personality, Boitumelo ‘Boity’ Thulo recently shared her new tattoo ‘Namaste, the God in me bows to the God in you’ which represents a Hindi greeting on her arm.

Nomuzi “moozlie” Mabena inked herself with a phrase printed in Latin which means ‘Where there’s life, there’s hope’. The phrase is tattooed on her chest.

The Soil’s leading lady, Buhlebendalo Mda is very rooted to her cultural beliefs. She opted for her clan name (Cihoshe) on her arm. Buhle posted on Facebook that her great uncle Mxolisi Nonyongo Ka Cihoshe once told her that Cihoshe is a name of a river which only her tribesman (ooCihoshe) could cross it. She also has one on her back which is a face of a mother and a child.

Queen BRAGGA, Nadia Nakai got inked with a sentimental word “Ignatius” which means the best name ever created. A person with this name had a shining personality and is loyal to everyone he comes across.

Singer and actress Kelly Khumalo dropped jaws when she shared two additions to her tattoo family. She first got her other wing at the back of her arm and recently inked her other arm with the name of her currently-trending Gospel single, Jehova.

Dj Zinhle chose to have a rose tattood on her arm and also her hand when she experienced a difficult time in her life. She told Mzansi Mirror that she got inked during the hard times with her baby-daddy. “But also for what I had gone through in my life, with the father of my child, it was just like; with everything that happened a rose is still a rose. So it made sense,” she said.
