The plastic crown worn by rapper Notorious B.I.G. in the last photo shoot before his death has been sold for $594 750 (R9.7 Million), CNN reports.
The crown was part of Sotheby's first-ever sale devoted to hip hop and was expected to fetch between $200 000 (R3.3 million) and $300 000 (R5 million).
But the item, which was also signed by Biggie, pulled in nearly double the maximum amount anticipated.
The crown was put up for sale by photographer Barron Claiborne who took the famous image of Biggie in 1997, just days before his killing.

Teenage Tupac Shakur's love letters were also up for sale at the auction, going to $75 600 (R1.2 million).
Speaking about the auction, Sotheby's wrote on Instagram: "Achieving an overall total of $2 million, the auction was a celebration of the history and cultural impact Hip Hop has had on art and culture from the late 1970s through the "Golden Age" of the mid-1980s to mid-1990s, and up to the present.
"A majority of items included in the sale were consigned directly from Hip Hop's most pivotal well-known artists and figures, several of who will be sharing their proceeds with a variety of charities."
