Getting sick is an athlete’s worst nightmare, but getting sick just before the Olympics is incomprehensible.

In the run-up to the most significant event of my mountain biking life thus far, it happened to me. Luckily, I started feeling better just before the flight to Tokyo.

Having had a bit of forced downtime, I arrived feeling fresh and rested. Japan is still under lockdown and parts of the local community were protesting against the Olympics due to the amount of money and resources spent on hosting the Games.
