  • Sex and intimacy coach Kgomotso Masela says there is no right or wrong way to moan during sex.
  • But what happens when the moans are uncomfortable for your partner to hear?
  • Kgomotso says this will need a frank conversation, and she offers five tips to ensure the moaning does not scare your partner.

Some moans may sound scarier and weirder than others, but who are we to say there is a right or wrong?

There is no telling what sound could come out during a time of pleasure, and the level of tolerance for whatever sound is preferential.

While some moans are something to giggle about, others can scare some people off.

Sex and intimacy coach Kgomotso Masela says there is no right or wrong way to moan during sex.

"The right way to moan depends on how and what you feel at that time. Moaning is a language spoken and understood by the parties involved, while someone listening from the outside will not understand the 'pleasure' sounds they hear. Just like with different strokes for different folks – different moans for different folks," Kgomotso says.

But what happens when the moans are uncomfortable for your partner to hear? Kgomotso says this will need a frank conversation. In talking about it, tread carefully to avoid offending your partner and making them uncomfortable.

"Be frank if you feel your partner's moans are not on, and be willing to also receive criticism," she says.

Also, moans aren't always a sign of a good time, Kgomotso says; hence it is essential to be mindful constantly.

"They can often be misunderstood for a good time, especially if people are faking an orgasm. It's important to be cognisant of your partner's character. For example, for someone who is reserved, they could be a big turn-off," she says.

Kgomotso details 5 tips to ensure the moan does not scare your partner away.

1. Keep it natural so it doesn't sound forced or fake.

2. Don't overthink it. Go with the flow and respond to your body's natural response system.

3. Follow your partner's lead and pay attention to how your partner responds.

4. Don't keep it inside because silence is also a big turn-off, as the other party doesn't know if they are on track.

5. Don't scream. Just moan and keep it soft.
