  • Everyone has a vision of how they would like their dream wedding to be, but what happens if it's impossible.
  • Most newlyweds, since Covid struck had to downsize their guest lists or change the original plans due to lockdowns.
  • Here Reddit bride discuss the stress that comes with planning their dream weddings under the current health conditions.

  • Jen* shares how their engagement party was a success and how the pictures came out beautifully. She is currently planning her wedding and still has some time when it comes to the wedding details as the wedding is only in April 2022. However, the one thing that stresses her are the costs that come with a wedding.

“Every single thing costs more than the research I had done before we even got engaged,” she says. Although both Jen and the soon-to-be-husband are employed, she envies brides who decided to cancel their big weddings and went for intimate ceremonies instead.

Christinuh11 also has worries about the wedding costs, sharing ,“I have been feeling extremely anxious about spending money on our future wedding (2023 date - we are just beginning to plan, and laid out a budget with our top vendors, venues, etc.). And I was mini panicking about what else we could do with this money".

Seedy_one is planning her wedding for the third time because of Covid and her plans have changed as the world around her changed too.

"You have more than a year to plan out your special day. If I have learned anything during this time, it's that visions change, reality sets in, and there are no rules. You 1 000% can change your mind and make it what you want it to be,” she says.

She had always imaged having a big wedding, but it just wasn’t happening as the first one had to be cancelled, as did the second. Her regret in all of this was allowing people to make her feel like she had to do things in a certain way.

“My partner and I are incredibly excited to do it small. If you feel like you're beginning to resent your day, then change plans and spend that month in Paris instead,” she adds.

Tinaballerina33 was also in the same predicament. The one problem is that on top of her and the husband living paycheck to paycheck, they wouldn't be getting much help from family members which meant that financially.

They had a set budget initially but had to increase it and realised that it would be all too much for them.

"I finally realised it's just a day. Is it worth all the money, time and effort for ONE day? In our eyes, no. It's OUR wedding. We had to remember that. Who cared what everyone else thought? It's about us,” she says.

“We decided to elope at a Sandals resort. It's my wedding and honeymoon moon in one. And it will cost us less than half of our original budget. I couldn't be more excited. No, it's not what I dreamed my wedding would be. However, I couldn't be more excited. It is your day! Your wedding. Also remember it is just a day."

For all those who may be stressing about their wedding day, here are few tips on how to plan your big day.

    • Set your wedding budget: It’s important to have a budget in place before anything else. The budget will determine many of your decisions. If you’re lucky enough, some family members may wish to contribute financially, but it's also important to know exactly how much they'll be contributing. Never go beyond your budget.
    • List of priorities: with having this list you will be able to be disciplined enough to stay within your budget, and once those priorities are dealt with then we guess you can add extra things to your wedding
    • Get your partner involved: by doing so, they'll be a sense of fairness in this wedding planning. This will also help in sharing the stress. With your partner's involvement, you'll get their opinions on things and finding common ground with some issues.
    • The more, the merrier: never be afraid to ask for helping hands from your loved ones. This can help make sure that things run smoothly and on time as the work is spread out to others.
    • Always give yourself more than one option: having options allows you freedom. For instance, make sure you have three wedding venue options. Not everything you love may go with your aesthetics or budget, so having options helps you not to spend way more than what you are supposed to. This also helps with making sure that you're happy and not just settling.
    • Always go back to the checklist or wedding planner: this will help you make sure you're not doing extra and possibly unnecessary things. Planning a wedding is very stressful, and one tends to be stressing about a million things at once, so having a planner will help when it comes to organization. You will be able to focus on what you're supposed to at that time and move on to the next. Try and have a moving train.
