Thina Yekani (17) from Manyano Boxing Club has a dream of one day becoming a professional boxer.

He made his remarks after he won a gold medal in a recent boxing event held at Butterworth in Mnquma.

Yekani, from Mdantsane, was among 300 amateur boxers that competed in the Welcome Ncitha Rising Stars Boxing Championship event that was hosted at Butterworth Training College recently.

The young boxer impressed boxing spectators when he won all three matches (bouts) he fought during the event, to qualify to represent the Eastern Cape in an upcoming amateur national championship event.

The event is expected to be hosted next year, in an unconfirmed province for now.

Yekani started his boxing career in 2019 and he is already showing some potential signs of becoming a great boxer in the near future.

“I am happy to win a gold medal here, because I worked very hard at the gym preparing for this tournament,” said the Manyano Boxing Club boxer.

He said his aim is to be a professional boxer one day, as he works hard every day to make his dream come true.

The boxer also thanked the Eastern Cape Amateur Boxing Federation for hosting the event, as the tournament gives young boxers an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of boxing sport followers.

After his recent win, Yekani promised to keep on working hard, preparing for the next national championship event as he targets to do well there.

Mnquma Amateur Boxing Federation chairperson, Mbuyiseli Xokolo, has thanked all boxing clubs from different regions within the province where their boxers participated in the event.

Xokola said that as the amateur boxing federation they would continue to contribute to the development of young boxers so that they could be champions in the near future.
