Lethabong: A Bushveld oasis

Lethabong: A Bushveld oasis

The area surrounding Thabazimbi is known for its game farms. Lethabong Lodge, which opened a few months ago, is one of them. The campsite makes the place even more special.

Aerial photos of the resort show a lot of bush... but there is a blue spot in the middle surrounded by a green border.

Lethabong’s water park and neat lawn are a child’s dream. It has slides, swimming pools, a foofie slide and waterways where you can float around on a tube.

There’s also a jumping pillow that’s a cross between a trampoline and a bouncy castle. Next door is the tuck shop, where you can also buy wood, charcoal, and fire lighters.

The play park is open from 9:00 to 18:00. There is no admission fee for campers.

Lethabong has 10 stands on a lovely lawn, with the first four about 40 m from the water park.

The other six are another 40 m along where the lawn ends.

The stands all have their own bathrooms. These are housed in five buildings – each has two bathrooms for the two adjacent stands.

There’s a basin, toilet, shower and dishwashing area, and you also get two types of power points – the blue caravan socket and the regular household one.

Then, there’s a loose-standing drum for your braai fire.

There is a games room between the campsite and water park, but for the more energetic, there are marked walking, running, and cycling routes that vary in distance from five to 15 km.

Visitors are not allowed to drive around and see the game using their own vehicles, but the resort offers rides for R250 pp.

These rides offer the chance to see some very special animals, including golden and king wildebeests.

How about a white or black impala… or maybe a white blesbuck?

You are now deep in the Bushveld, and to get to Lethabong, the last 8 km is dirt road.

The road isn’t always in good shape, so if you’re coming with an road caravan, ask the resort about the road before you leave home.

Price R550 pn per stand (for four), then R250 pp (maximum six per stand). Minimum stay is two nights, and three nights on long weekends. No pets allowed.
