The entertainment industry has been found wanting after a well-known actor took to social media to highlight his destitute state. Nthabi Nhlapo writes that policy needs to be formulated to protect artists.
Tshawe, a character on Emzini Wezinsizwa, walks into the infamous Room 8 at the hostel carrying a broadsheet newspaper. He reads and explains an article about the president's latest RDP plan to house homeless children. As expected, most of this goes over his four roommates' heads, but Tshawe goes on to "adopt" two homeless boys as part of his contribution to the RDP project – much to the reluctance and annoyance of the other four men.
Being the most learned of his mates, he often tries to quell any argument (as he does regarding the "adoption") with his signature phrase, "As far as I'm concerned", but it rarely works.
