We have seen an increase in crochet clothing from our favourite celebrities and it seems like this might be the new South African fashion wave.
From skirts and sports bras to dresses and hats, we see more and more people making their mark in their colourful crochet pieces.
Crochet clothing is delicately designed and crafted mostly by hand. The yarn and wool material used for crochet clothing might seem warm and fuzzy, but our celebs have been rocking it throughout autumn, spring, and summer, showing off some skin and standing out.
It is still uncertain which celebrity made crochet clothing trendy for South African fashion but the luxury crochet clothing brand, Crochet Couture, has been quite famous for designing crochet clothing.
"It feels so surreal considering I did not think Crochet Couture would grow and even reach such a status. For me, it lets me know that I am working in the right direction and that keeping consistency with crocheting will eventually pay off.
"As a brand, it makes me proud to know that South African celebrities are interested in our crochet / knit pieces and it pushes us as a group to think of more ways to grow and reach a larger audience," said the crochet designer and owner of Crochet Couture, Nonhlanhla Ndlovhu in a Khaya FM article.
Besides being stylish, crochet clothing is eco-friendly and increases sustainability.
"Sustainability is very important to me as a conservationist I strongly believe in providing for the current generations needs now without compromising the needs of the future generations to come, with this ensuring a balance between caring for the environment and economic growth. It also means contributing the lowest to any negative impact that may be posed to the environment," Nonhlanhla further alluded.
