The rules governing office romances vary from company to company.
Labour law consultant Ivan Israelstam says, “A lot of employers prohibit such affairs but find it difficult to enforce these policies. More employers are now accepting such romances, and discipline employees only in cases where the relationship interferes with harmony in the workplace or operational effectiveness.”
Career coach Nothemba Mxenge concurs with Ivan. “Some companies strictly do not allow it, while others may forbid relationships with subordinates or managers, or within the same region or department.”
