4 Ways to rock ankle boots this winter

Wow, have ankle boots hit the shelves and the streets this season or what?  I’m really excited about this trend is it can work to balance your curves and give you height, creating a slimmer, fashion fabulous you.

How you wear ankle boots can either make or break your look.  Here are my top ways to look fab in ankle boots this season.

1. Ankle boots give balance to skinnies

Wearing skinnies can make your hips look bigger and your legs look shorter, but pairing them with a pair of fab ankle boots can offer balance to your look. The boot itself creates a ‘mock bootleg’ effect.  Yay!

The key is to create one long line. Simply tuck your skinnies into your boots. Be weary of rolling your trousers up above your boots, showing off a piece of your leg. The eye goes to wear there is skin, so it can make your legs look like they end there.

If you have short legs, then to create the illusion that you have longer legs, wear the same colour skinny and boot – it’s as simple as that.

2. Ankle boots with slim leg trousers

Not everyone looks great in skinnies.  Slim leg trousers are a great alternative, but can be a little tricky when pairing with ankle boots.  Either wear your boots underneath your slim leg trousers or wear a chunky boot that will allow the hem to easily slide inside without looking too bunchy.

If you are going for a rock chic/grunge look, then the bunchy hem look may not matter… in fact, it may even add to the look.

3. Ankle boots with leggings

You can have lots of fun with this look. Leggings are super easy to fit into any ankle boot.  The trick is to get the top right. Most women wear longer tops with leggings so as not to reveal too much.

Make sure you don’t just pair a tent-like style top with your leggings as it can make you look bigger than you are.  Rather select a style that fits in the waist and flairs at the hem to create shape and balance for your curves.

To funk up this look, wear a pair of tartan or floral printed leggings teamed with a plain colour fitted top and short skirt.

4. Ankle boots with dresses and skirts

This is fashion fabulous if you get the lengths right. When wearing a dress/skirt with ankle boots you need to wear your length a little shorter than if you are wearing long boots or shoes.

To give you a guideline, if you usually wear your dresses just above the knee, then shorten your dress approximately the same amount as the height of your ankle boot.  (What leg length you loose with an ankle boot, you gain with a shorter dress.)

What’s great about winter is if you don’t like the texture of colour of your legs, you can cover them up with leggings or tights.  If you want to really lengthen your legs, then wear the same colour tights and boots.

There are so many styles of ankle boots to choose from. When shopping for your perfect pair, wear the type of trousers, skirt or dress you intend to wear it to make it easier to determine if they are indeed worth the investment.

Have fun.
