I love that there are so many trends to choose from these
days, but how do you go about choosing the ones to wear?
I always encourage my clients to wear the trends they love
and then to adapt them to suit their personal style and body shape.
Here are what I think the top 5 trends for the year are going to be:
1. Glam rock/punk
2. Folklore fashion
3. Vintage looks from the 50’s and 60’s
4. Sporty chic
5. Prints, prints and prints
These trends transcend the seasons as you will see them represented right throughout the year. Yay! This makes it more cost effective to update your existing wardrobe. The ‘it’ handbag can be worn summer or winter and still be bang on trend.
Each week, I’ll cover one of the trends and give you tips on how to wear them. After all, the most popular trend is your own rendition of it that suits your personal style, so don’t be afraid to pick and choose what you like.
Up first: Glam rock/punk
It’s not about covering yourself in spikes, studs and shaving the sides of your head…thank goodness! This year’s version of punk is more grown up. It’s about wearing accents to create a look with subtle punk appeal. Think femininity meets edginess and glamour.
How to wear it
It’s in the accents: Glam rock/punk accents may include studs and spike accessories or detail, chunky silver jewelry, a biker jacket, smokey or heavy eye makeup, black nail polish, biker boots, skull prints, leather, fish net stockings, rock n roll t-shirts, messy hair styles and lots of black.
Select your accents: Select one or two accent pieces for a modern punk look. This makes it really easy to update your existing wardrobe without having to spend a fortune.
Pair your favourite jeans and t-shirt with a studded handbag or killer heels, a studded leather strap bracelet, give your hair a bit of a grungy wave and smudge your eyeliner a little for the smokey eye look.
If you really love this look and think you’ll wear it for a more than one season, invest in a biker jacket or leather skirt for your accent piece.
Mix it up: Remember, it’s all about mixing rough with smooth, edgy with feminine, grunge with glamour.
Wear a leather jacket with a pair tailored slim leg trousers and sexy pointy shoes with stud detail, a biker jacket over a feminine dress or a studded belt with jeans and a simple top.
