Fans from around the world congratulated Chad le Clos on his engagement after the Olympic swimmer posted a pic of a giant engagement rock on Instagram and captioned it, “She said yes.”
More than 4 000 likes and about 200 comments later, it would seem Chad had indeed asked his girlfriend, model Jeanni Mulder, to be his wife.
Sadly, all of them were duped. Chad later admitted that the post had been an April Fool’s joke.
“It’s all just a prank for April Fool’s Day. We’re not really engaged,” Chad laughed when YOU spoke to him on the phone.
“I hadn’t really thought the post would draw that much attention. In less than 10 minutes I’ve had almost 20 phone calls – even overseas friends have contacted me to congratulate us.”
Chad says Jeanni had been in on the joke in the spirit of April Fool’s.
Whether the two will really be heading down the aisle soon, remains to be seen. Chad remains tight-lipped.
