She's spoken openly about her heartrending losses before but now Sharon Stone wants more women to talk about the grief of losing a baby.

The Basic Instinct star has opened up about her experience of losing nine children by miscarriage.

Sharon, who is the mom to three adopted sons, Roan (22), Laird (17) and Quinn (16), says women have not been given a platform the discuss the “profundity of this loss”.

The Golden Globe-winning actress was commenting on an Instagram post, responding to the news that Dancing with the Stars’ Peta Murgatroyd and her husband, Maks Chmerkovskiy, had suffered three miscarriages, the latest while Maks was attempting to make his way out of Ukraine, his home country, and get back to the USA.

“[Miscarriage] is no small thing, physically nor emotionally, yet we are made to feel it is something to bear alone and secretly with some kind of sense of failure. Instead of receiving the much needed compassion and empathy and healing which we so need,” Sharon wrote.

“Female health and wellness left to the care of the male ideology has become lax at best, ignorant in fact, and violently oppressive in effort.”

It is not the first time Sharon (64) has spoken out about miscarriages.

In her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, she opened up about her multiple pregnancy losses, saying the experience was “devastating”.

“When I lost my last baby, I went through 36 hours of labour without giving birth.”

The actress has also shared how she struggled to carry a child to term because of an autoimmune disease and endometriosis.

“I can say that I had three, five-and-a-half-month miscarriages and no one had any answers for me – what’s going on, why is this happening to me?” she said in a 2017 interview.

The Oscar nominee has been advocating for more platforms where women can speak freely about these issues.
