Her home is every pink-loving little girl’s dream!
Maria Alison’s obsession with the colour started when she and her fiancé, Aaron Mordey, bought their first semi-detached home in 2019. Her stepdad, Michael Heslop, gifted them with a pink kettle and toaster – and Maria loved them so much she decided to decorate her entire home in the colour.
Maria, who lives in Sunderland in the UK, had the full backing of her 30-year-old fiancé, who became so taken with the colour he even bought himself a pink motorbike.
Two years after embarking on her mission, Maria has decorated their home in shades of pink and filled it with all things pink, including bedding, furniture and dining sets.
“At first Aaron thought it seemed like a joke, but now he's always got his mates in to show them the pink house,” Maria says.
“The strangest thing is I'm a real tomboy – I'm into cars and stuff like that. I've never really been a girly girl, but I've just always liked pink.
“A full section of my wardrobe is dedicated just for pink now. I don't wear pink things every day but I do have a lot of them.”
The 29-year-old also filled her beloved Siberian huskies Jeff and Bow’s room with pink fluffy toys and treats.
“I would like to make it all pink but I’d feel bad as one of them is a boy. Jeff's this big male dog that's almost 10st [63kg],” she says.
Maria estimates her renovation set her back around £10 000 (R198 000), but the total could be higher because it excludes the bigger items in her home.
“When we moved in we went with mainly grey and just a few pink bits but then as time went on I really liked the pink and my partner was well on board.
“I’m trying to get rid of the grey now, but obviously it’s hard to do everything at one time.”

Although it was a challenging job, Maria, who has always had a passion for design, says she and Aaron did all the renovations themselves.
“When we first moved in, we ripped the old kitchen out and put a new kitchen in. I’ve never ever paid anyone for labour. We’ve done it all ourselves, the panelling, everything. We just watch YouTube and learn,” Maria says.
Realising her love for home décor, Maria, who works full-time at her brother’s deli, recently also started her own online business, selling personalised homeware items, clothing and gift sets.
“I thought maybe I could actually do this as a living because people seem to like my style. I’d like the website to be my full-time job but these things take time.”
Maria plans to take a bit of a break from renovating her home but says her pink paradise is far from complete.
“I’m not done yet, but I do think for a while there is enough pink.”
