Royal commentators and fans have been speculating about it for months but now it appears Her Majesty’s highly anticipated one-year review of Harry and Meghan’s exit from working royal life won’t be happening.
According to Katie Nicholl, a royal writer and expert in the goings-on in the House of Windsor, the “general feeling” is that everything is running smoothly following the couple’s dramatic decision to quit The Firm last year.
“My understanding from the Sussexes’ camp is that there has been communication with the queen, Prince Charles and with William as well. The general feeling is that this [current situation] is working,” Katie told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat.

She adds the couple are being observed closely on the commercial deals they’re making and “nothing they’ve done so far suggests the planned one-year review needs to go ahead”.
Since relocating to the US, Harry (36) and Meghan (39) have landed a mega-million-dollar Netflix deal, which will see them making documentaries and children's series in their new roles as producers, as well as a Spotify podcast deal. They’re also in demand as speakers for private and corporate engagements.
As part of their deal with the queen, they agreed they would not use the word “royal” as part of their work going forward. They also closed their Sussex Royal Foundation.
One outstanding issue however, Katie says, is whether or not Harry should still keep his military title.
“I am told that it will be the queen that ultimately makes that decision.”
Harry has held onto the ranks of lieutenant commander of the Royal Navy, major of the British Army and squadron leader of the Royal Air Force, which he earned during his 10-year career in the forces.

However, after Megxit he was forced to give up his ceremonial positions of captain general in the Royal Marines; honorary air commandant RAF Honington; and commodore-in-chief, small ships and diving, Royal Naval Command. Covid restrictions have, of course, also meant the California-based couple are unable to return to the UK right now – and according to Katie, it’s “unlikely there will even be a face-to-face Zoom call”.
The Sussexes are reportedly still set to return in July when a new statue of Princess Diana is set to be unveiled in the gardens of Kensington Palace.
Harry and William commissioned the statue in 2017 to commemorate the death of their mother in 1997 and to recognise her “positive impact”.
