South African stars have always found an interest in sharing their raw Mzansi talent with the world. In November 1959 the late Mirriam Makeba arrived in New York, becoming the first black musician to leave South Africa on account of apartheid and she placed her footprints on the entertainment streets of the U.S. for stars of the future to step in - and SA celebs haven't disappointed in driving that legacy forward.
While Hollywood is still adjusting to South African talent on their TV screens, our celebrities are taking over and making their mark. From being cast amongst big names on movies and series, walking down the runway for big fashion brands, making hit songs and hosting shows, local stars are sure not holding back.
Stars who have made their way to the US include Pearl Thusi, Charlize Theron, Candice Swanepoel, Terry Pheto and now Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha and Thuso Mbedu are currently working on various projects in the U.S. We take a look at our favourite looks from these faves.
