The kitchen used to be a bedroom with no sea-facing windows. Thanks to stacking windows that open onto the veranda, outdoor entertaining is now a breeze. While cooking up a storm, Marc – a keen home cook who lost the argument about the stove’s position – can admire a surfboard that holds fond memories of trips to Jeffreys Bay and teaching his daughter Tayla (now 29) to surf. Marc and Kim Lange’s renovation is all about a dream come true: swapping life in a security complex for the freedom and beauty of living on a long white beach on the KZN South Coast. But the paint was barely dry when Marc did something that made Kim very, very angry – so angry that she suggested they go for couples counselling.
