UNIQ clothing by Checkers opens its 20th store in Sandton

Look out, shoppers, more grocers are entering the clothing space.

The Shoprite Group’s standalone apparel brand UNIQ clothing by Checkers now boasts 20 stores nationwide since the brand launched in 2023.

While competing supermarket clothing retailers like Pick ‘n Pay Clothing have more than 400 stores across Africa, UNIQ clothing by Checkers gives some competition to look out for.

Their 19^th and 20^th stores have just opened in Sandton City and in Pretoria East’s Linton’s Mall with the release of their autumn/winter 2024 collection, which is available in all stores.

UNIQ clothing by Checkers was the first retailer to introduce the high-quality Pima cotton, Supima – which is an ultrasoft fabric that uses long cotton fibres – to the mass market.

Many are eager to see the growth of the brand while others are unsure of their prices.

Sharing on how they go about making sure that prices are affordable for everyday consumers, the Shoprite media team explains, "

The team at UNIQ clothing works in close partnership with suppliers to ensure we offer customers the best fabrics and quality at affordable prices.    Every item of clothing is thoughtfully designed and made to last, ultimately giving customers more value for their money."

This season, the brand adds 100 percent Merino wool to their latest collections, which is softer and more refined than regular wool. Its fine fibres are gentle to the touch, lightweight but warm, and will not irritate the skin.

The new collection consists of comfy knitwear, durable outerwear and an extensive range of tees that can be layered with wardrobe favourites to create chilly-weather outfits for the family.

Here are some autumn and winter pieces and prices to look out for at UNIQ clothing by Checker’s:

Statement transitional pieces like women’s trench coats at R1 299 each and the sleek men’s shacket at R699, which is available in a range of colours. 

Men’s and women’s knitwear, including basic jumpers from R299 and premium 100 percent Merino wool jumpers from R549.

The season’s must-have raincoats at R999 providing protection from the wind and rain. 

An extensive collection of long-sleeve T-shirts priced from R159 in a variety of silhouettes and styles – from fitted to longline, boxy, and dry-feel pocket. 

Kids’ – aged three to 13 – long-sleeve tees, puffer jackets, jumpers and joggers in warm autumn tones and cosy fabrics, including heavyweight cotton, brushed fleece and wool to keep little ones toasty.

The store also stocks an all-year-round core range of premium basics, including socks, underwear and sleepwear.
