Cracks in your floor? Cemcrete has advice

A Home reader writes Our cement floor is cracked and in need of repair. The floor is roughly 50 years old, and is a regular screed (no cementitious covering). How do we go about fixing it? 

Joanne Sykes, marketing director at Cemcrete, responds Large structural cracks like these are quite difficult to repair without showing the repair work. And there are a few options, such as using a repair mortar or something such as our PrimerCote made to a paste, to fill the cracks. However these will not give a seamless finish.

Alternatively, once the cracks have been filled, you can apply our Concrete Primer to reduce the varying curing suction of the current floor substrate, and then either our CreteCote or RenoCrete can be applied over to give the whole floor a new look. Unfortunately the cracks may still then reappear over time.

A third, more drastic, repair would be to fill the cracks as per above, then lay our CemLam membrane over the entire floor, and then lay a 50mm screed with our Colour Hardener, to give a completely new floor finish that is then not reliant on the below substrate for integrity. This way any movement below the CemLam will not show through to the new surface. This will of course change the level of the floor and therefore doors, etc. will need to accommodate the new floor level.
