With a bit of elbow grease and Woodoc 10 you can give a tired table a new lease on life!

Photographs ER Lombard

 You will need

  • painted wooden table
  • belt sander with 40-, 80- and 120-grit belts
  • 150-grit sandpaper
  • mineral turpentine
  • cloth
  • Woodoc 10 Interior Polywax Sealer (Velvet)
  • paintbrush
  • stirring spatula
  • Woodoc SteelWool

1. Remove the existing paint from the surface of the table with the belt sander and 40-grit sandpaper. We started off with a small orbital sander but soon realised that the job was too big, so we brought in the big guns!

2. When most of the paint has been removed, you can change to the 80-grit belt.

3.Sand the surface until smooth with the 120-grit belt.

4. Finish off with 150-grit sandpaper; we did this by hand to ensure a smooth and even surface.

5. Wipe the surface with mineral turpentine and let it dry.

6. Stir the Woodoc 10 well with a flat spatula before and during application.

7. Apply Woodoc 10 to the sanded surface with a paintbrush. Apply the first coat until the surface remains glossy for 10 minutes; always apply with the grain of the wood. Let it dry completely.

8. Once it’s dry, lightly sand with the Woodoc SteelWool. Remove any dust and apply the second coat.

9. Repeat step 8 when the product has dried. Apply a third coat.  Do not sand after the third coat.
