At the end of February, I led a discussion with Ingrid Jones and Annake Müller at the Stilbaai Book Festival about a wonderful recipe book they’ve published: The Lockdown Recipe Storytelling Book. And while researching some background, I came across a post about air fryers on their Facebook group, which had caused quite a stir.

There are apparently two groups of people when it comes to air fryers: those who already have one (“it’ll change your life” is their refrain) and those who are determined to get one soon (“what size?” is all they’re interested in).
Okay, there’s probably a third group too: the handful of people who’re not yet convinced, like me. I love gadgets; an onion chopper, for example! But an air fryer that takes up so much space on your kitchen counter? I’m not so sure. And I have an oven, after all…
