First things first – update your CV

Include all your current and any new skills that you have acquired. Keep it short and simple, but don’t leave anything out. Include a cover letter. Go digital

Traditionally, we would network in person and go for physical interviews to secure a job. But, things are different now. Social distancing is now essential to keep yourself safe, so digital job-hunting is the way to go. Familiarise yourself with the online space. Here’s a list of things to do to make your online search more efficient by The Balance Careers:

  • Organise your job search.
  • Set up job alerts so you get notifications as soon as a new post is advertised.
  • Use hashtags to speed up the process.

Know you crowd

The lockdown has affected sectors in different ways. Some companies are unfortunately letting people go, while others have stopped hiring completely. But, there are companies that are still looking to fill certain positions. However, bear in mind that they are “likely to experience a slower hiring process as they transition to a fully remote recruitment and onboarding process,” says Amanda Augustine in an article published on Forbes.com. All you need is a little patience and lots of motivation to get you going.

Boost your skills

If you in an industry that may not be currently hiring, you can still improve or prepare yourself to fill that position as soon as the job market is up and running. You can do this by reflecting on the skills that you have and how polished they are after checking the description of the job you want. Danielle Beauparlant Moser says in an article published on The Muse, “use that information to determine what you need to brush up on to make yourself an even better candidate when the time comes.”
